sharper than us.16 This means we realize and yield to a transcendent truth; the reason early believers persistently sought the apostles’ teaching is because it led them to the piercing truth that had become flesh, Jesus Christ. The apostles’ teaching, along with the Old Testament, is foundational and leads to an encounter with Christ (see Eph 2:20). We should not be surprised by the unique power and place of God’s word. Our Lord Jesus based his whole life on Scripture. When Jesus faced temptation,
